Relationships are a big journey — bit like stepp Relationships are a big journey — bit like stepping into an ocean — sometimes calm, sometimes rough.

Romantic films can sometimes make it look like commitment means it’s all sorted.

The truth is much more complex and with some awareness and some deep breaths, it can be possible to navigate the dirty washing or lateness of another person, and still retain great love.

Part of this is shame-busting and realising that connections have different times, sometimes really hard. Can you find it in yourself to open your heart and bring love into the connection, even when it gets tough?

Of course no one should allow themselves be abused or be in a situation that is untenable.

It can be helpful to learn from other relationships that have gone there before and know how to navigate the ship of love, so you can find your North Star and keep the hope ⛵️

Just remember many long relationships have been through massive ups and downs and learned from them.

Ask some people for their top tips and they may well share them.

Love Cate ♡

What an incredible weekend at Charleston Festival What an incredible weekend at Charleston Festival @charlestontrust 💫

I met authors @JunoDawson and Joanne Harris…

Phillip Norman, the Sunday Times journalist who interviewed so many rock and film stars of the 60s and 70s…

And goddess Pattie Boyd who was talking about the 1960s. This woman had the most amazing love songs written about her by Eric Clapton and George Harrison 😍

Charleston House is in East Sussex and is where the Bloomsbury Group hung out last century.

As a little girl I grew up in Battersea, South London, but my mother would regularly talk about the “rice and brown sandals” people who apparently lived in Hampstead. I grew fascinated by these people and imagined them writing books and living in glass houses full of light, having lots of intellectual dinner parties and picnics on Hampstead heath.

Then I heard about the Bloomsbury Group which included Virginia Woolf and her sister Vanessa Bell and I was enraptured by the idea of brilliant artistic and creative women who had their own spaces to create.

I have been to Charleston House to some divine writers talks before and managed to bag a couple of my interviews from my podcast there.

This weekend I booked to see inside the house and it has totally mesmerised me and I am getting ready to paint and stipple all around my home.

I also went to several talks on Virginia Woolf and am so ready to create my own garden room to write and paint. Something about her voice and presence is so captivating and assuring. It encourages me to be myself and to write for myself no matter what others think.

When we find ourself in connection, triggers may h When we find ourself in connection, triggers may happen and our wounded inner child may feel pain…

And then our adapted child or protector may wish to step in and defend or attack or stonewall.

But if we can take a moment to breathe and think, we can be with these parts, bring on our wise Self and find compassion for us and the other.

This takes practice but changes can happen quite quickly once we do this.

We don’t get rid of triggers but we learn how to handle them better so they soothe more easily.
