Explore laughter as a powerful tool for social connection and why it is essential to the human system. Followed by Q&A.

Why do we laugh and why is it important? Laughter is one of the oldest human communication systems, often used to signal safety, relief and connection. When we laugh with someone, we are often sharing vulnerability and acknowledging fear.

Join accredited therapist Cate Mackenzie to discover how laughter and comedy supports emotional resilience, strengthens relationships, and regulates the nervous system. Laughter reminds us that connection is present, enjoyment is allowed, and our shared humanity matters.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Explore laughter as a form of social connection to strengthen trust, lower defences and create a shared sense of belonging
  • Learn how comedy creates space around difficulty and pain, rather than erasing it
  • Discover ways humour can be used to build relationships
  • Understand how humour regulates the nervous system: from reducing stress hormones and releasing feel-good chemicals to shifting the mind out of threat mode
